Around The Peninsula.... Week 27....

First Take......

Bologna 3-0 Sampdoria.... Remember all your friends who watch other leagues snickering about how Alex Del Piero was the league's top goal-scorer. Yes, Marco Di Vaio is topping the goal charts. Its best not to think about it. Big win though for Sinisa's bunch. The relegation fight is going to be very interesting. No idea what to make of Sampdoria anymore...

Catania 0-3 Siena... Ditto for Catania and this game. Fantastic goal scored by Maccarone...

Chievo 1-1 Cagliari... Nice point for Chievo, but a wasted opportunity for the Sardinians. A win wouldn't have put them in the fight for European places, but it would have put them in a position to enter it, if that makes any sense...

Napoli 0-2 Lazio... Lazio entered the day level on points with Cagliari and seized their opportunity. Rocchi came off the bench to bag a brace and they now have two roads into Europe, the Coppa Italia and the league. Delio Rossi still has to figure out how he wants to use Rocchi, Pandev, Zarate, and Foggia if they're going to make a serious run, but they're back on the fringes...

Lecce 0-0 Reggina... Didn't see any of this game at all, but apparently there was an incident for our good friend La Moviola. Someone on the Sunday night shows will fill me in, I'm sure. At first glance, you'd say that since it was a six-pointer, a draw's not a bad result for the road team but Reggina are starting to lose touch with the pack a little bit. They desperately need points at Napoli next week with Inter and Genoa on the horizon...

Fiorentina 0-2 Palermo... Appeared shocking, but really wasn't when you think about it. Palermo coming off of the Catania embarrassment needed a big win and got it. Fiorentina's results the past few weeks have masked some ugly, ugly performances...

Milan 3-0 Atalanta... Well, without Doni and Floccari, you didn't think the visitors had much chance of scoring a goal. Classic Pippo and three big points for Milan...

THE RACES

Scudetto: Inter conquer the Marassi, Juve kept pace though... I thought Juve would cut the deficit this weekend but hats off to the champions...

Champions: Only Milan won this weekend and Roma and Fiorentina will be kicking themselves. If these teams keep stumbling, Lazio might be able to scratch their way back into it...

Relegation: 5 teams fighting for two survival places... Any three of them could go down...
